Day 1: (SAT) Antisana
We leave Quito early in the morning en route to Antisana. Our trek begins at the glacier lakebed in the foothills of the Antisana volcano, known as Antisanilla. In favorable conditions we may be able to observe the odd condor circling high overhead. During the afternoon, we descend through cloud forest, passing through bamboo zones, observing a variety of bromeliads and orchids on the way. We camp overnight near the Laguna Volcan (3,600m).

Day 2: (SUN) Rio Tambo – Papallacta
After breakfast, we descend from the Laguna Volcan, passing spectacular waterfalls and through cloud forest until we reach the Tambo river where we are met by our vehicle that takes us to the Papallacta thermal springs. Overnight

Day 3: (MON) Papallacta – Quijos – Quito
We leave Papallacta early in the morning and drive down to the Quijos river where we enjoy a white water rafting trip (class III – IV). During approximately 3 hours we pass through a variety of eco-systems with constantly changing vegetation as we descend through the cloud forest. Our journey alternates exhilarating spells of running the rapids with languid moments where we can observe and photograph the passing scenery. After a picnic lunch we leave the river and return to Quito.

Services include: Entrance fee, tour, meals, transportation and guide, accommodation at Papallacta
Not included: Meals where stated, accommodation in Quito, alcoholic beverages, taxes or communications, expenses and extras
Note: Depending on the water level our guides could cancel the rafting portion for safety reasons.

EQUIPMENT LIST

Trekking
Water proof windbreaker, hiking boots, rubber boots, sleeping bag, daypack, woolen gloves, woolen cap covering entire head and ears, warm trousers, good sunglasses, hat, sunblock (at least 15 spf), canteen, flashlight, pocket knife, camera, binoculars, and wash kit.
Rafting
A T-shirt, bathing suit and sneakers (which will get wet) or Teva sandals, towel, set of dry clothing and shoes for after the river running, water proof windbreaker, insect repellent, sunblock, hat and sunglasses with a safety strap. We provide water-proof bags for your camera and binoculars.
